A reading habit is a numbers problem
Most unfinished books were never given a time slot. Once you know that a 360-page book needs 18 pages a day for 20 days, which is about 20 to 25 minutes, it becomes a calendar item instead of a wish.
Choosing a pace you can keep
Pick the daily page count you could still manage on a busy day. Reading a little every day builds the habit; long sessions that you miss twice a week do not. If your target date needs more pages than that, move the date or accept a harder book is a slower book.
Reading for study
When you read to learn, plan for more than reading time. Add time for notes, summaries and recall questions. The habit tracker on this site can help you hold a daily reading slot for 66 days.
Frequently asked questions
How fast do people read?
Average adult reading speed for non-fiction is often quoted at around 200 to 300 words per minute, which is roughly 40 to 60 pages an hour depending on page size. Fiction can be faster. The tool lets you set your own pages per hour.
How many pages a day should I read?
It depends on the book and your time. 20 pages a day finishes a 300-page book in 15 days. For dense textbooks, a smaller number with note-taking is more realistic.
Does it include rest days?
In "finish date" mode you choose how many days a week you read. In the target-date mode the days left are counted as reading days, so lower your pace if you plan to skip some.
Can I use it for textbooks or syllabus chapters?
Yes. Enter the total pages of the chapters you must cover. For study use, add time for notes and revision on top of the reading time.
